Lovely Long Weekends

I love long weekends. It’s so nice to know that today is normally a day that I work, but instead I got to sleep in half the day, slowly get up, make coffee and oatmeal and then sit down to putter around and ponder life. Oh and run. Of course.
But so far this weekend I was — surprise surprise — in Seattle. We left later in the evening and got to Seattle on Friday night around 11pm. It worked out well, as the party was just getting going. It was in a gorgeous old house, with no furnishings on the main floor. The main dance area was lit by a fire — which gave beautiful lighting, even if it was too warm. I had a number of fun dances with people, and with people who surprised me! Most of my favourite leads weren’t there, in fact, I don’t think I knew more than one follow there.  It was very low key, they were pretty firm about no alcohol and everyone seemed a little low energy from a long week. The party naturally started to end at around 1p, by the last song, at 2am, everyone was done.  We got to our ‘home away from home’ — M&E’s place by about 2:15 am and were asleep shortly after that. I got to crash on the Lovesac.
We awoke and got going around 1pm after grabbing some breakfast for my friends (and ourselves). Heading downtown we decided to get tickets to the Underworld tour – the 21 and older version of the Seattle Underground Tour.  This tour was great, taught us some of Seattle’s early history and we got to see the underground city. It was supposed to be filled with the more colourful history of the city — debauchery etc. But really, other than the guide mentioning brothels in his talk it wasn’t that bad. I wouldn’t pay the extra $6 next time for the tour — I’d rather get a drink elsewhere and go on the regular tour.
While we waited for the tour to start, I went lingerie shopping. An odd thing to do with dance friends, perhaps, but the party we were going to that night was a ‘Red Light District’ Blues party and I needed fishnets.   We also got D some silk PJ’s and he came as our ‘man servant’.  It was hysterical to see these relatively normal people dressed in pleather, or almost nothing. One guy wore tie dyed “tighty whities” (sp?). Probably my most memorable moment was being dipped by my friend ‘flasher’ (wearing a trenchcoat) and looking up and seeing ‘tighty whitie’ standing above me. I’m not sure it’s a necessarily a good memory, but it’s definitely imprinted on the brain!  All in all it was a lot of fun.
We crashed back at M&E’s for a few hours then took off home. Yesterday I had Thanksgiving Dinner #1 with some dear friends and then it was home to make my Pumpkin pie for my family dinner. So far today I’ve done absolutely nothing and may take a short nap. Soon though, I’ll go for a run before getting ready for the dinner…
