Comparison to Others…

We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.  ~Frederick Keonig

I had a moment today where I had to pause and reflect on this a little bit.  Sometimes I think I have a tendency to notice what I don’t have.  Some people may think this refers to financial or material things.  This can be in several areas of life, not just financial.  I have plans that are upcoming in the next several months and these will help with future career plans.  I’m quite excited about them and will explain more at the right time. Now’s not the time to be specific. But a friend told me that she’s managed to put similar plans in place.  There are slight differences between the plans though — based on external circumstances beyond our control — and when I heard that she was successful I had a moment of being jealous about the differences.
But then I sat back and thought more about where I want to go and what I want to do and with some thought I realized that for where I want to go and what I want to do my situation is ideal for me.  I can see what I have and be happy with it.
