Neti Pot

So I promised a friend I’d go to the doctor. My cough has been horrible. And what did I find out? It’s to do with my sinuses. Apparently there’s a correlation between what’s going on and my hand eczema. Environmental allergies or something like that.
Anyhow, rather than an inhaler I have a sinus spray — corticosteroid. Yippee. And this thing called a Neti Pot.  The one I have looks like a plastic tiny teapot and you shove the spout up your nose and let physiological saline drain through your sinuses — with your head tipped forward and to the side.
I’m not yet sold on it but it’s supposed to help. It doesn’t hurt, but it feels a little weird. And now my left side of my sinuses are clear. My right feels like I breathed in saltwater and I’m sneezing.  We’ll see. Perhaps that’s TMI for a blog read by friends and strangers alike, but there’s my update on this 3 week long cold. A crazy item called a Neti Pot, and still coughing. But for now I’m calling it a night.

WOW! I thought we were the only people with a neti-pot.
We got one after seeing an Oprah episode where her Doctor friend showed it. Our kids have allergy problems and using it on a daily basis really helps keep their noses clear. CONGRATULATIONS! And if you think THAT was TMI – you DO NOT want to read MY POSTS about being sick!

Hey, what else is a blog for? Oversharing is the name of the game 😉 Sorry you’re still sick! I’ve heard of neti pots, and that they’re supposed to work really well. Here’s hoping!
So I’ve got a TMI question … does the saline drip down the back of your throat like with nasal sprays? That’s what’s kept me from using one. I can’t STAND saline. Blech. I’d puke, it’d go through my nose, and then I’d have worse problems. How’s that for TMI? 🙂

Well it did dribble a little bit but the instructions say that if you lean forward and tip your head (or something like that) it doesn’t go down — it should go out the other side — but that only works well if you lean forward.

Okay, I’m seriously laughing here. Uh. How far do they expect you to bend over? Forehead to knees?

I can picture you doing a headstand while neti-potting… I had my head leaning against my medicine cabinet, and tilted to the left. There’s no room to go further without going into the bathtub.
